This week I visited one of my latest buyers at their new home on Marco Island. WOW were they ever excited! This sweet little home was just the ticket for these energetic folks from the UK. They were not deterred from the amount of work which needed to be done. They were however somewhat surprised at how different our systems are. I heard quite a story about how shocked they were when visiting Lowe's plumbing fitting area - - - the selection was thousands of times greater than the number of fittings they were accustomed to!
Chris and Steve are delightful people who have taught me quite a bit about how real estate is purchased in the UK. Each agent sells only his or her real estate listings. If you, as a potential buyer, walk into an office and do not see anything of interest, you walk next door. There is no agent who is working for the buyer at this point. Seems a bit of work for the buyers, no?
The other point which had some merit is how an offer is presented. The buyers would actually do the inspections and get repair estimates before an offer is put together. This is not out of the question here when one is making a sizable purchase but certainly is not the norm.
The outcome of my helping this delightful couple was I use the word "Brilliant" much more and mean it! It is so much nicer than hearing people fuss. Don't you think? The other aspect was that I truly enjoyed working with these two people and getting to know them. We'll share "a pint" or two now and again and it'll be great fun as we recall some of the properties we looked at and their reactions to some of the Goodland properties' asking prices (o my!)
