Are you clear about where you want to live once you move to Southwest Florida? Did you say you want to "Live On The Water"? Great!
Now, what kind of water would that be?
Is an inland lake what you long for?
Do you want to look out on the Gulf of Mexico and miles of brilliant white sand beaches?
Do you want to slip into your kayak and paddle out into the shallow water and explore the mangroves or do a little fishing? This kind of water could be very shallow and brackish and host all sorts of shorebirds and fish.
Are you planning on taking the family out on your deck boat and visit Keewaydin Island on Sunday afternoon? You might want to be located near the Marco River so the trip takes a few mintues (just in case you have a change in weather). Almost any canal would work for you. The location that would work for you are considered "water indirect" on Marco Island; there's a bridge you'll need to duck under to get to open water.
Maybe you have a large motor yacht or sailboat which requires at least 4 feet of draft. You'd need to make sure you have enough water so that at low tide you don't sit on the bottom. With this kind of vessel you'd need a property with "water direct" access; no bridges that will challenge your navigation.
There are so many beautiful places on the water to enjoy. That's a big part of the what makes Southwest Florida paradise.
